Reduce Edge Leakage in Conventional VIPs: VAP® Aluminum-Based VAP for Multiple Industries

Table of Content [Hide]

    Professionals working with refrigerators and freezers, cold-chain logistics, ultra-low-energy buildings and rail-transit insulation often face several practical problems:

    Conventional bag-type VIPs require folded edges and can lose vacuum after minor impact during transport, creating high losses on large projects. Their insulation performance can also decline after long exposure to high and low temperatures or high humidity, raising appliance electricity use and building heating and cooling loads. High-performance vacuum panels can also be expensive for large projects.

    Many project managers need a general-purpose vacuum insulation panel that combines stable performance, a long service life and reasonable cost.

    Super Tech's VAP® aluminum-based vacuum insulation panel (VAP-AL) uses a prefabricated aluminum-plastic base shell to balance performance and cost. It is suitable for most residential and commercial insulation applications from −40°C to 100°C.

    Process Optimization: Prefabricated Aluminum-Plastic Base Shell Reduces Fold-Edge Leakage

    The main weakness of conventional bag-type VIPs is the folded structure along all four edges. Leakage rates are higher at the corners than across the film surface, making them vulnerable to damage.

    VAP® aluminum-based vacuum insulation panels use an integrated prefabricated base shell made from high-barrier aluminum-plastic film. No edge folding is required, and the seals are flat and consistent, reducing corner-leakage risk at the structural level:

    • Integrated PE heat sealing: Seal strength reaches 85 N/15 mm, compared with 45 N for conventional bag-type vacuum insulation panels;

    • Protective aluminum-plastic base shell: Puncture strength reaches 45 N, reducing scratches and damage during loading, transport and on-site installation;

    • A multi-layer high-barrier top film and built-in long-life getter maintain the internal vacuum, with a rated service life of at least 15 years.

    No additional protective cushioning is required. Panel losses during storage and transport remain controlled, making high-volume production and large-area installation easier.

    Verified Performance Tested to Chinese National Standards

    All performance indicators have been tested to relevant Chinese national standards, with traceable data:

    • Strong insulation performance: Center-of-panel thermal conductivity at room temperature is ≤1.8 mW/(m·K), outperforming conventional materials such as XPS and rock wool. A 15 mm panel can replace several tens of centimeters of conventional insulation;

    • Stable aging performance: The change in thermal conductivity after high- and low-temperature aging is ≤0.17. After 28 days of damp-heat aging at 70°C, the change is only 0.13, indicating limited degradation under year-round temperature and humidity fluctuations;

    • Operating temperature range: −40°C to 100°C, suitable for household refrigeration equipment, cold-chain containers, water-heating equipment, coach bodies and building walls.
      Performance remains stable in applications such as low-temperature cold stores in northern regions and high-humidity supermarket freezers in southern regions.

    Proven Across Four Major Application Areas

    Appliances and Cold Chain (Primary Applications)

    For household refrigerators, ultra-low-temperature freezers, vending machines, cold-chain containers and pharmaceutical insulated boxes. The thin panels increase usable internal volume and provide efficient cooling at the same energy input, helping appliances meet current energy-efficiency standards.

    Transport Equipment Insulation

    For high-speed trains, large coaches, cruise ships and aircraft cabin shells. The lightweight material reduces vehicle weight and helps control long-term energy costs.

    Industrial and Commercial Pipelines

    For room-temperature pipelines in biopharmaceutical and chemical facilities. The thin panels take up less maintenance space and simplify on-site installation.

    Low-Energy Buildings

    For wall insulation in commercial buildings, stadiums and theaters. The panels support ultra-low-energy building requirements, reduce air-conditioning and heating loads, and facilitate green-building certification.

    Custom Sizes for Different Project Requirements

    vap-st-vacuum-insulation-panels-for-specialized-equipment03.jpg

    VAP® aluminum-based vacuum insulation panels are available in 9 standard specifications, with thicknesses of 10/15/20/25/30 mm and standard sizes from 200 × 400 mm to 600 × 900 mm;
    Custom tooling is available for irregular, round, polygonal and special R-corner panels. Seal dimensions can also be adjusted for non-standard equipment and distinctive building designs.

    Three Practical Advantages over Conventional Bag-Type VIPs

    Lower losses: The fold-free shell reduces edge damage and significantly lowers panel scrap on engineering projects;

    Longer service life: Built-in long-life adsorbents maintain the vacuum for more than 15 years, reducing maintenance and replacement frequency;

    Cost-effective purchasing: Overall performance is close to the stainless-steel series, while batch-purchase costs remain more manageable, making it suitable for large conventional insulation projects.

    In Sum

    For refrigerator upgrades, cold-chain retrofits and low-energy building insulation, VAP® aluminum-based vacuum insulation panels suit most standard operating conditions. Free samples and thermal calculations are available.
